2GR swap

Postby NikNes » Mon Sep 23, 2013 9:55 am

Has anyone on this board done it? Anybody know what's needed? Costs?

Here's the stuff I found from google:
http://performanceforums.com/forums/arc ... 64391.html
http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=100054

From the first thread here's some useful info I noted:

I have used a 2S bellhousing out of a Celica, which lines up with 2 dowels and a bolt, but I'm adding new bolt holes of course.
Had to mount the starter into the bellhousing, cos yota use a reverse mounted friggen starter and there's not room to mount one normally.
3SGTE Flywheel has had flywheel holes slightly elongatd to fit. I wouldn't reccommend this though :p

Gonna be running a Autroninc SM4 and locking the echaust cam and only using the variable intake.

Made my own manifold because the standard plastic one sat too high, was a dual length setup with a butterfly in it and an electric throttle.

So it looks like it's not too trivial. Apparently he used a W58 trans from a NA supra

Why not a 1GR. They were designed for longitudinal layout and would have a trans that would be bulletproof on a small car.
The trans would add more weight than the motor but the weight would be low and pretty centered front to rear.

1GR would be the way to go. All intake sensors are under the engine cover, so no MAF sensor to relocated or figure out. Mounts look easy to change up, similar to BEAMS blacktop from Altezza - cut the triangle mounts off the stock subframe, box it, weld some pads on, job done. Just gotta sort the exhaust manifolds and trans mount. Hammer down. If you get drunk with some credit cards, throw a TRD supercharger on top and really hammer.

Should use an RA62 transmission out of an IS250 6MT. Bolt-up to a 2GR and meant for RWD. Plus 6-speed.

Very interesting, would any gr engine bolt up to the is250 6 speed? I also wonder how an ls1/6 swap would compare to this in price, weight, etc. Please don't ex-communicate me for suggesting it! :)
