AE86 brake upgrade question..

Lot of people seem to like the FC brake caliper route, but ive heard and seen a few ae86 in japan that use EG/EK civic calipers. It doesnt seem as big an upgrade as the fc's but still better than oem corolla ones. They also say its better on your stock master cylinder than the FC's and there are a billion civics here in socal...

anybody have any info or experience on EK calipers?

Also, i havent found and clear information regarding S13 rear brakes on ae86, if anyone can build on it.

Thanks!

Most of the links I found mention using civic calipers, at any rate, this link has a lot of info for you.

Kind of a coincidence as I just received these, but you might want to check this out:

Can you still run 14" with those brakes? Did you change the master cyl at all?

Civic calipers and rotors? sorcery

What problem are you trying to solve? With somewhat close to stock engine power levels, there is no reason to change to larger rotors or different calipers. Flush out the brake system and replace it with fresh high temperature brake fluid and run some good performance pads. That's all you need to do to get good braking out of the Corolla. If you're overheating the stock system with cloe to stock engine power, you're using the brakes too much. If you have a lot more power than stock, you probably want more, though. The drawback is that it makes the problem with unspring weight worse, so I wouldn't do anything to increase unspring weight unless you have no other choice.

Personally, I run Hawk HP Plus pads and ATE Super Blue brake fluid with all stock brake components except for Goodridge ss lines. That combination gives great feel, I can effortlessly threshold brake and I never have an overheating problem. If I ever start smelling brakes, I know I'm going too slow, so I use the brakes less.

Agreed.

Acceptable pads/rotors plus fresh fluid with a good bleed should always be the starting point. Fresh fluid vs 10-20yr old is a huge step up.

I run oem rotors / Hawk HPS pads on another car and they're excellent on the street. Great pads.

Very nice. Definitely a budget upgrade. Now if only they fit Celica hubs...

What modifications did you have to do to do that conversion?

This was mentioned in other posts in this thread, but ... http://www.hachiroku.com.au/2009/06/ae86-tuning-guide-ultimate-stopping-power/
It covers the AJPS/FC3S/Civic break combo, and several others. You are better off going with the Wilwood/T3 big break kits IMO. They offer front and rear now, which they apparently did not do at the time of the above write up.
