ae86 rearend question

Postby futurehachi » Mon Jan 06, 2014 10:41 am

Hey guys!
I'm new to the Hachi world. If I get a GTS LSD rearend to replace my sr5 rear will it bolt right in? Or will my driveshaft be too long or have a different yoke?
Thanks!

Totally different animal. It won't fit.

If you are talking diff head only, then above applies.

But if you are talking complete rear end... axle housing, axles, diff head,
calipers and discs... yes, it will bolt in no problem. And there is a small
difference in length between the SR5 and GTS driveshafts. I think you have
to swap the rear half of the driveshaft to the GTS one... but double check
me on that, as I can't remember for sure.

yes, I mean the entire rearend. and how would I do that? do you mean the yoke?

also, the rear I found is a zenki. will it bolt in the place of my kouki?

Whole rear end either zenki or kouki is good. And read here...

... for some info on the difference in length, and the possible ways
of making sure you get the correct length on your car.

If you cannot find the rear half of the drive shaft, you could always get a 1 piece from illegal garage(decent price) or you could have one made by a driveshaft/offroad shop.
Or you could get Baller and get the carbon fiber 1 piece from Gaijin_Rokurunner. He is in my area and these driveshafts are top notch, the good shiz.

Yeah... apparently there was an LSD available for the SR5 way back in
the beginning, but not sold for a looooong time. Kind of rare item but
does get a mention in the forums from time to time. Some people will
tell you that they don't exist :)

You were close to right. You have a kouki. No biggie though. At least you aren't calling your car a Trueno lolzzz.

Craig you got that right. I wish more people were open like this dude. Kouki vs zenki was the first thing I learned about these cars cuz my turn signal was busted and I found they were different lol. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. But if you think it's a dumb question that you might get made fun of for asking, just send someone a PM.

I use the free upload on another forum. It's easy to use from my phone but a pain to find the pics again.

the front bumper is the reason why i thought it was zenki. but i also remember reading that the eyelids on the pop ups differ. mine have like this reflector look to them. and some other ones that i found at the junkyard are solid black.
