any tips from previous builders? I'd like to rebuild it, (piston rings, valve guides, etc) anybody know where i can buy rebuild parts? or if/what 16v parts are compatable :x lol What about keeping the 20v block but using a red/bluetop head? i hear some talk about this but id just like to get club4ag's opinion

You can use alot of USDM parts for this engine.
-AE92 GTS oil pump
-AE86 Water pump with RWD housing
-AE86 timing belt tensioner
-ST timing belt (you can order this timing belt at your local Toyota Dealer even though it's JDM)
-The valve guide seals are Toyota Echo valve guide seals
-The rings you can get from NPR here in the USA

You can use the 20v bottom end with the 16v head, people do it all the time. You can actually just slap the two together if you want but the 20v pistons blow dog nuts. I built a motor a few months ago using high comp 16v pistons and a silvertop bottom end. The high comp pistons you can get from RockAuto for $84.00 for all four pistons.

The ST bottom end has larger rod journals, oil squirters to keep the pistons cooler, and stronger thicker rods. It is also physically a stronger engine block with more reinforcement ribs. Just slapping a stock 20v bottom end to a 16v head is called a "1620 Engine". The stock silvertop pistons are junk though in terms of squish area and blah blah blah math blah blah. Good little setup is to find a silvertop engine that some fanboy bought and tore apart never re-assembled and pick yourself up some 0.50mm oversized high comp 16v pistons off RockAuto.

How much gains in performance?

Not so much a performance gain as peace of mind and reliability. If you want performance you could get a BT bottom end, they have the lightest rods, will help with throttle response.

can you remember the part numbers for the pistons, and if i do so will i have interference? xD

I'll have to dig around for the part numbers. If you put 16v pistons with a 16v head, they are not interference, regardless of the 20v bottom end. 20v engines however ARE interference no matter what someone says. They BT head I had with bent valves is proof.
