First corolla, help me identify it?

Postby silentsnow31802 » Fri Sep 19, 2014 11:21 pm

I just bought my first corolla. Always liked them but they are pretty expensive for how old they are and I could never justify buying one. Well I decided it was time so I bought a 1uz swapped one. I didnt know when I bought it but it has a build thread that shows quite a lot of work that has been done to it. I however can only find pictures and not much real info. If anyone knows anything about it can you please tell me? Im currently trying to find out what kind of axle it has. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Considering that this is your first Corolla, (Congrats btw :D ) I personally don't think that you should have bought a swapped one. It's gonna be more of a headache if something goes wrong. Anyway, the car had a 4A-GE at one point, which may mean that it is a GT-S or a swapped SR-5. I think I'll just let the more professional members handle this.

P.S. Sorry for not including much real information.

Ive had a few swapped cars so I have an idea of how much of a headache they can be. Im prepared for the headaches as I believe they will be worth it once I learn all there is about the car. I believe it was a GT-S in a past life but now its hard to tell. It has some sort of drum brake, 4 lug rear axle that looks like it was shortened.

No prob on the lack of info, appreciate the response! Its nice to see this forum is active so ill be able to get some insight on things in the future.

If the vins are JT2ae88 it was a GTS, JT2ae86 it was an sr5, if its JT2ae85 it was a DX.

If it a ae86 VIN and it has a drum rear, chances are it has never been swapped. Take some pcis

The Vin is 88 so it was a gts. I was told by a random dude the rear end is from a previa but I have been unable to find a 4 lug drum brake previa rear axle anywhere. I'll take some pics when I have time. I'm way busy with work. Planned on doing some work today but got lazy lol. First plan is to strip, clean, do some repairs, then use spray on bed liner on the interior floor before I put the carpet and such back in.

With a 1UZ under the hood, you would be lucky to get past the first
set of stop lights with a SR5 rear end :) Most likely it is out of some
Toyota pickup truck.

My thoughts exactly. I know the rear end has seen a hard day of drifting and its still kicking. Not sure if it was installed years ago when the car was built or later on at some point. Still trying to get a hold of the original owner/builder to get whatever info I can about it.

Here are some pics I took of the rear diff, if anyone can help me figure out what its from. The drums are larger than the s13 discs on the front. They are 4 lug.

Thinking its a 70s van rear end? Possibly a 7.5. Need to know if tjat looks correct and if there is a disc brake and LSD conversion available.
