4AG Problem

Postby TE724AGE » Tue Jan 20, 2015 6:57 am

Hey guys,

I just recently converted a AE92 4AG into a TE72. I also converted it to twin 40 DCOE side drafts. I started it up and it runs but timing sounds a little bit off but it idles. If I go to rev the motor it won't rev past 2500-3000rpm. I was thinking about the timing advance and I was wondering if the FWD dizzy has anything to do with it?

List of parts for timing.
-MSD 6AL with rev limiter adjuster
-MSD Blaster 2
-MSD 8680 Timing computer

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Are the carbs jetted properly? Do you have an adequate fuel supply? I had the same problem with my '77 Celica, it was the stock fuel pump. I couldn't get my jets right in my Celica until I upgraded the fuel supply. I ran a Mallory pro pump and used a Holley reg to keep the pressure in check. That was a long time ago.

Not sure what the jets are at. I have a Mallory pump right now and some cheapy regulator. Maybe the regulator is not allowing enough fuel to pass through? I tried adjusting the regulator but did nothing for me. Just stuck on what would be the next(correct) step.

Pull your plugs and get a basic idea from that.

Also what Mallory pump do you have? and what size are your fuel lines. (I'm asking this because I'm running the same thing except different carbs)

Sorry to Hi-jack this thread....

How easy is the MSD to instal with the stock distributor ?

Can I use an un-ballasted coil like a Lucas DLB105.

I'm desperately trying to find a simple affordable ignition system for my 4age Starlet running bike carbs.

Thanks.

Mallory 5250 I'm pretty sure. And I'm running the factory lines with 3/8 rubber lines.

I forget the pump size, but I ran with the stock fuel lines for a couple of years. When all was said and done I did have bungs welded to the tank for a 1/2" line to the pump and a 3/8" return. Ran 3/8" to the regulator and carbs, then 3/8" back to the tank. The stock lines were adequate for the fuel supply, but the modify it bug bit me.
