Exhaust Back Pressure Help

Postby PUMAE86 » Mon Apr 15, 2013 5:53 pm

So im running an obx 4-1 header, test pipe, straight to a buddy club spec II exhaust. 2.25" piping all around i think

I was told by many that enough back pressure is required on these cars, or else im going to be running inefficiently.. I put on the silencer it came with to provide some back pressure and dull out the loudness of the exhaust but it looks ugly and am looking forward to an alternative perhaps running a magnaflow muffler where the test pipe sits.

Any feedback from te experts is appreciated..

If you can find any tech supporting that old wives tale anywhere on the WWW, I'd be very surprised!
Stay away from 'told by many'!
good luck.

i think its more like 2" piping, you'll have more than enough backpressure. but lets say you went with a 3" exhaust on a stock bluetop, your car will run like crap.

Any power loss that is seen from larger exhausts is due to velocity loss, but becomes incorrectly attributed to backpressure. The less backpressure the better.

Imagine blowing a spit wad with a properly sized straw, then attempting the same size spit wad with a paper towel roll. There is a certain amount of diameter and length that will be best for your "spit wad" (specific air flow from engine).

Silly rabbit. Backpressure is for 2-stroke engines. ;)

LOL!^^ dang 2 strokes! I imagined expansion chambers under the car!

Exhaust size really depends on what you are running. i.e. stock bluetop, light bolt ons(airfilter, light port cleanup, header, etc) IMO, 50mm or 2" runs really well with or without cat. good midrange torque and decent topend.
