What does this plug into?

Postby Pidge526 » Mon May 27, 2013 8:51 pm

Hey guys, I'm finally getting my corolla road worthy again, but it's taken longer than I thought it would and kinda forgot where this plug goes to. The vehicle is a 1984 Corolla GTS hatch with flip-ups if it helps any.
Image

It is a solid green/red striped wire on one end and either a solid tan, orange, or brown on the other wire (sorry, forgot to write it down when I was close enough to tell).
It comes up in the same loom as the connector that plugs into the MAF behind it as you can see in the picture, but there really was nothing around it within reach when the car was all assembled, AC was pulled if it helps, don't think there would've been any sensor or anything on the lines around there though.

Any help or reference would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks guys

If that plug is, what I think it is. Fuel pump jumper. nothing plugs into it. insert test wire to run fuel pump with Ignition set to on.

Alright I really appreciate the input, I tried looking the a schematic for a while but wasn't really getting anywhere, I may try to jump it to test it.

That's a VSV solenoid connector. There is a little solenoid that bolts next to the stock air filter box that plumbs into the intake boot. It goes to that. Don't jump it.

Hmm, I'll have to look into that, I haven't really ran the vehicle yet but I have a green connector onto another piece next to the airbox that kind of looks like that VSV, but with a matching green end but I think that may be the Idle up solenoid.

Green one goes to this:

Your yellow one goes to this:

Yellow one bolts onto the passenger side shock tower near the fuel filter.

'84 GTS? Interesting...

The gts harness has a jumper plug for the afm right next to the afm plug. That is what's pictured.

Here's a pic from my bay:

Image

Color coded:
-white circle/plug is for the a/c idle up
-green circle/plug for electric idle up
-yellow circle/plug for afm jumper thing

They're all the same style 2 prong plug. The obvious differences are the color and location. After looking closer I noticed the yellow plug doesn't have a clip (the green and white plugs both do) which is indicative of a jumper

The car is an '85 GTS. Harness hasn't been modded.

Yep, the last posted picture is the same as my harness, I have the two others (ac idle up and electronic idle up) connect to where they should go but like Deuce Cam stated, the yellow circled one is in about the exact spot mine is hanging. So with it being a jumper, just leave it alone or tuck it away somewhere and cover the end from corrosion?

That's how it comes from the factory so you can leave it. If you look closely in the pic I posted you'll notice that the jumper and afm plugs are taped together - that's oem tape. With everything installed it normally sits as shown the pic you posted.

You can always tape over the plug and/or tuck it away if you want.

Yep, it was the same with mine and taped together in the same loom, guess I never noticed it when I took the few pieces out. I really appreciate the help and pictures for reference guys. One quick question for reference of getting codes for a check engine light, I take it you have the same harness being a zenki? Is the diagnostic plug for jumping located above the charcoal canister? I don't think it would be the single wire connector with the rubber cap since it only has one, nor the plug with about 4-6wires, but the loom with two wires that is not covered? Just curious if you ever looked into it
