Hi Club4ag,
Currently I just got my car back from the shop after replacing various parts and aligning my wheels to -2.5 front camber and +2.5 caster. Car feels wonderful from its other setup but I ran into a problem. When turning left I get wheel rub on the inside of my car. Fender has plenty of clearance and no signs of any tire rub and this only happens on the right side (passenger side) of my car. What could be an easy fix for this? I was contemplating getting spacers or get different wheels with a different offset or both if I have to. Currently whichever is the cheapest route since I just spent a pretty penny getting my car back to normal : / Any help would be very much appreciated. Car is a semi daily driver meant for plenty of canyon time with grip in mind.

Wheel Rub Issue
Re: Wheel Rub Issue
Even though I say cheapest route I would prefer something very practical for pushing hard in the canyons
Re: Wheel Rub Issue
probably that metal ridge on the inside of the guard. take a big hammer to it, that thing slices up tires real fast

Re: Wheel Rub Issue
Where is it actually rubbing? As there's no point changing things if they aren't going to help. If you're talking about bashing the seam that runs behind the wheel that's a terrible idea as it will split the spot welds joining those two panels together. It will trap dirt and water and rust, and also weakens the shell and they aren't exactly stiff to begin with.
Re: Wheel Rub Issue
^^You don't have to bash that entire seam, just where it rubs. I did it on mine. I don't think the shell is going to be affected by a few inches of flattend metal. If you cover it in seamsealer, por15 and some underbody coating it will be fine against the elements. If it really weakens the shell, just weld a plate on it to give it some strenght.

Re: Wheel Rub Issue
In my first 86 I bashed that seam just where it was rubbing, my car got reversed into at about 5-10 km/h and that seam tore right open. I could put my foot through into the wheel well so I wouldn't recommend it no. If you really need the clearance I would cut the seam off and plate it like you said.
Re: Wheel Rub Issue
your wheels arent centered to the rack. as in, with no wheels on front, car jacked up, wheels centered like youre driving in a straight line...say it takes 10 full turns to the left before stopping(but less with wheels on because of rubbing on the innner fender well), and 8 full turns to the right before stopping. you need to have them even from side to side.
haha cali...i got one of your 86's and you're not getting it back.

Re: Wheel Rub Issue
I don't think I can bash it in? I do think the steering is off a bit since it only happens on one side. THAT or the shop I went to replaced the inner tie rod with a different length. Was debating about getting T3's LCA and Outer Tie Rods to help fix this problem.
