It's irrelevant what I paid. Besides, I got it years ago and prices have only gone up. Try searching around...

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
I got the weir performance 4.778 final set... It pretty good.. Cheapest bang for the buck... Prolly fastest to get too.. Since they in cali.
I think kouki it the stronger end since it 1mm thicker over zenki.
After market lsd would lockup more aggressive over stock... Some maker are aggressive more over the other... Go with trd lsd .. It not too aggressive but lockup well.
I have both trd and kaaz ... Feel very similar .. Kaaz a bit more aggressive in my opinion..
I still have the kaaz on my... U can properly get both for about 700-800$ buck each brand new if u know where to look.
Here is what i learn over past two year messing with my corolla.. Spend way too much cash on..
Want to make ur car go faster invest in the rear end and tranny gear...
For better handling get a good suspension setup.
And then of course there is more to what i just say... That is just what i would do... First.

Likewise.
Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
One more think u should keep an eye on when picking which final drive ratio to use.
It will change the reading on ur speed odometer gauge.
I have to change the speedo gear to a different size to have a correct reading after i installed my 4.778 final drive.
That of course was off my stock tranny t50...
There is a few link thread here and there to guide u if u going thru...
Cant tell u exactly what part number or size etc in that mater to get the correct part ... U have to see the different when installed and drive around using a gps and see the speed on gps and speed on gauge... And compare and choose wisely.
Good luck

How much do you think to replace the wheel bearings I think it's around $300? what do you think Tomei's LSDs ? somone suggest me to get that. I research it the price is good compare to kazz TRD cusco. Also do you know how much to rebuild the tranny with OEM parts? once open the tranny I rather get it rebuilt in one time if I getting the Mfatory 5th for it.

On my car the cluster is 10mph faster than the speed I'm driving, for example I'm driving 40mph but in fact it's 30mph, is that normal?

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Well
That is not normal...
I guess u have the 4.778 or 4.8 final drive ratio..
Unless your using an sr5 speedo gear..
Im not sure what tranny u using...
But i have stock gts tranny t50... And 4.778 R@P
Final drive...
That 10mile off is about right. Same thing happen to me.
I cant remember exactly what size speedo gear i change to but got it from toyota .not an expensive part. Easy to install too.
As for rebuilt ur tranny with toyota part... I got my complete kit from Tor reproduct here on club4ag..
Some where around 750-800$ that just for part..
Labor wise depend on where u go and locate.im the rainbow state place where every f***ing thing cost an arm and an leg.
Another member here sale the complete rebuilt kit for far less expensive ..
Forgot his nick but should still be on the sale section some where..
475 shipped i think... He claim is same supplier to toyota... Many other member buy it from him... I was going to get a kit from him too. But i couldnt waited
And yes if u are doing the mfactory then rebuilt it at same time to save time and labor...
Just remember to give them the new gear and tell them u want that new gear in there i stead of the stock gear.

Is there any other ways to check what final gear I have? I think my tranny is stock but I don't know the pervious owner didn't tell me anything about it so I guess it's stock. I think I might just keep the tranny stock after I got a final drive, if it doesn't work well with the final then I will step on it. Cost a lot if I change everything in one time.
And I just drove my car on freeway, 4th gear at 4000rpm is about 60mph (on cluster 70mph), 5th gear at 4000rpm is 70mph (on cluster is 80mph).

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
If your tranny and rear end are stock ... There is no way your speed odometer reading can read off by 10miles.. Unless u have a different wheel tires size on your car...
So what size is your rim? And tire?
Those can change the speed

Im running 14x7 0offset with 195/60/14 tires

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Atm
I cant remember what the stock tire size...
Im currently in socal
So i cant check the tire size...
I wont be home to check until this coming wednesday ..
Sorry
If any one here can help out would be nice.
But maybe to make thing easy .. Maybe u can try contact previous owner and find out..
But base on the info u provide seem like your rear end or tire size are not original size

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Not sure on the sr5, but the 1985 gts has 185/60/14 tires, and and 1986-87 have 195/60/14. The final drive is the same on all gts' being 4.3:1. I doubt Toyota changed the gear in the tail housing that the speedo gear mates to from zenki to kouki, but I'm not sure. That could account for a small difference in speedo readings depending on model year and tire size.
Now if you have a sr5/gts bastard car all bets are off. The sr5 had a 4.1:1 final drive. I could be wrong, but I assume the speedo/tail shaft housing gears on sr5 is different from gts to account for the different final drive. Mixing an sr5 transmission with a gts rear end, or vise versa, could might throw off the speedo as much as 10 mph. This is all speculation though.
RLZ - I noticed member boroyasui has complete t50 rebuild kits available again. He's done the community a huge favor and offered these kits when nobody else will. Here's the link: http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34011

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Will 195 tire change the speed if the stock is 185? For modiflcation on my car when i first got it almoset everything stock, just lowered on short springs and also the panhard bar mount been shorten, also supra wheels. I will try to contect the pervious owner if he knows something that didnt tell me. Im really confuse right now, how do you guys check the tranny is from sr5 or gts also rear end?

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Yes but it shouldn't change by 10 mph as you indicated. I didn't mean to confuse you. I don't know how to tell the difference between transmission since they are interchangeable. Besides it's possible the transmission was replaced at some point in time, and the previous owner doesn't even know it. These cars are pushing 30 years old after all. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Weir performance can provide a tail housing gears to match your final drive anyway.
While on the topic of the car being old and not knowing what it has....the same can be said about your rear axles. Have you actually taken the axle shafts out and measured them? I wouldn't assume one is 'kouki' or 'zenki' based on the model/year it came out of alone. I had a 1986 'kouki' gts which had a 'zenki' rear axle, and I'm not the only one. Parts get swapped out over 30 years...

I never open the diff or axle ever, I'm sucks on that it will take me forever. I think I just put my spare zenki rear end instead the one on my car, it making noise anyways. I just save up for a final drive and a LSD for now, take me crazy with this rear end!

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
I would measure the axle shafts before buying an LSD. I found out the hard way.
Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
If your car have all the stock part in.. Your speed odometer should read correctly.
You tire and rims size seem to match the stock size so it should be reading incorrectly.
As for rear end making noise...
Worn out? Maybe
Or did u lower your car? And not have a set of after market adjustable link?
U would need to adjust the upper link to correct the pinion angle . That way your pinion is angle correctly like stock setup... My lsd make all kind of noise when i did my lsd swap... Without adjusting those link correctly..
So it a tough deal if u never experience this kind of work before..
It not simple like changing a air filter...

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Yeah measure the axle that's a good idea before I buy LSD. And yes I lowered my car with battle version race 4 links but don't have the traction brackets. How do you adjust the 4 links to the stock angel for the pinion? I dot know where is the noise from its like 2 pieces of metal rubbing or like the brake pads always on the rotor? the other whine noise is from inside the diff I believe, maybe p&r are bad?

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Nah
Most like your rear end should be more quieter after u check and adjust the upper link.
I would measure my after market lower link to factory length. But the upper link need to be adjust to point the pinion nose up or down... Cant tell u how much because every one car is different ride height. So u have to figure that out.. Have u every look under a delivery truck ?
U can see the way the drive shaft work..
It way to the rear end. But most of the time it all depend on your final ride height.. I believe every time u change ur rise height the pinion angle change too.
Where ur engine and tranny sit make a different too.. So from experience u should only adjust the pinion angle after your engine and tranny and ride height are set.
Now to answer ur how to adjust the link?
Is your rear link adjustable?
Im not sure how the battle version link are but i have t3 and i adjust them by turning the link shaft like a screw to make it longer or shorter. Until u reach a length u want.
So jack up ur car and and put them on jack stand..
The front end can jack any where as long as it jackup.
The rear how ever need to be jackup as if your car are on the ground...
What i did was jack the differential up and put a stand on each side of the rear housing close to the wheel it self.. Then with an angle finder measure the rear end side of the drive shaft and then the tranny side.
Try to eye ball them see if it align correctly.
I getting tires typing ... Try that if u cant figure it out.. Maybe i be bqck on to tell u more later.
But hey any one else can help him out too please..

Check the link below for a walk through on adjusting pinion angle. Keep in mind you should only attempt this if you know what you're doing, otherwise leave it to a professional.

This is what i have under my car, everything is adjustable.
Thnaks for the info for the pinion angel adjustment, i watched few videos on youtube how to adjust it, i think i might try to do that, hopefully i can finish it

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
Yes
All this ride height need to be taken well care of.. The rear height matter ..
Make sure ur rear shock and spring are very well sited tightly... Too loose can cause the rear to rattle and make weird noise from rear end...
Also the drive shaft will vibrate more if the angle are not correctly set.
As for traction bracket.. I would get them install to... It change the position of the lateral link back to a proper position.
It would benefit your handling and will reduce rear end noise in my opinion.

You are right, I will try to to fix that before I spend on the rear end, also what brand of traction brackets you guys using? Or just grab whatever it's a traction bracket?

Re: Zenki or Kouki Rear End
I have t3 bracket. Fitment i super tight. But again you could have better luck. There is a hand full of maker out there. And my experience is just with t3.
