Re: water pump
The pump is a two piece unit. Impeller side and housing side.
Remove the whole thing, some bolts hold the two sides together some mount to block.
Before installing.
Clean the blocks mating surface, very important. Stuff a few paper towels into a plastic bag and plug the hole.
Copper wool/brush wont scratch the iron block, a razor can catch/dig. Credit card type card works well.
Replace the o ring, do not re use it, use a Tiny dab of rtv(in a couple places if need be) to hold the ring to block.
Toyota pump comes with both sides mated with a gasket ready to bolt on. Most remans and "oem" will be impeller side only, keep your housing imo and make sure you are getting a gasket. Also inspect your impeller and clean off any casting flakes on the impeller if you go minimal coat. I ordered a "oem" pump which looked like S, parts guy tried to tell me the flake crap along the ridges of the impeller was not going to break under force and get in my water line......
I ended up with a toyota-complete pump for 75? vs 35? "oem".
